If 120 geese survived the first year and if no more than one goose hatched from each egg, how many goose eggs were laid at the pond?
A. 280 B. 400 C. 540 D. 600 E. 840
Solution:
Hey Binish, I am also getting the same answer as yours. Its option D - 600. Would request the moderators to verify the approach.
Let the total goose eggs laid be 60.
Hatched - 40 Not hatched - 20
1st month survival - 30 1st month death - 10
1st year survival - 12 1st year death - 18
12 corresponds to 120 Hence 60 will correspond to 600
Option (D).
OR,
Take the survival ratio:
(2/3 * 3/4 * 2/5) = 1/5
So 1/5th of the eggs hatched survived. IF the eggs hatched be x, then the equation corresponds to: (1/5) * x = 120 or, x = 600
I do not think of any other info. that I am missing here.
perfect answer rahul...very good explanation as well !!
