1) D
2) E
Lets start looking at the answer options again.
For 1), we have to find weakness to the evidence provided. I was looking at the assumption while solving the question. The evidence here are the premises. They are: a) A survey conducted by Weddings magazine found that 70 percent of the magazine’s readers want a catered wedding reception. b) An analysis of the catering industry, however, shows that the current number of caterers can serve only 55 percent of the weddings likely to occur each year.
Option D compares readers of magazine and people. Here we can safely assume that the set of population reading Weddings Magazine is much lower than the set of people in general. Exactly the point to conclude that no impressions can be formed on the catering business by just having the input from 70% of a particular magazine's readers.
For 2) I am not sure abt option E. I still think it should be B. B has a concrete evidence while E is too vague. How many people say that they shud have catered reception at their wedding is unknown. We are trying to infer from a information which is out of scope of the argument.
Pulak@ I request you to kindly write down the explanation given in the OA for choosing E. I am unconvinced abt E.
Thanks a lot. Cheers, Rahul.

The decline in the restaurant industry has lead to a decrease in the number of positions for new chefs. At the same time, the number of schools offering culinary arts degrees has increased significantly.
Which of the following, if true, helps explain the apparent contradiction in the statement above?
To save costs, many restaurants prefer to hire chefs who do not have a culinary arts degree. Most culinary arts programs are attended by students with at least some prior experience working in restaurants. Culinary arts programs offer their graduates education in a range in skills, including food preparation, food presentation, menu design, sanitation, dietary planning, and restaurant manage. The popularity of gourmet cooking has caused many people to pursue culinary arts degrees to improve their cooking at home. When the restaurant industry slips into a decline, many of its employees find jobs in other industries.

Possible options (C) and (D).
But comparing between the two, (D) is much stronger than (C).
Ans is (D)

Which of the following, if true, most logically completes the passage?
A recent poll found that over 80 percent of the residents of Nalmed Province favored a massive expansion of the commuter rail system as a means of significantly easing congestion on the province’s highways and were willing to help pay for the expansion through an increase in their taxes. Nevertheless, the poll results indicate that expansion of the rail system, if successfully completed, would be unlikely to achieve its goal of easing congestion, because _______.
A.most people in favor of expanding the rail system reported less congestion during their highway commute as the primary benefit they would experience
B.of the less than 20 percent of residents not counted as favoring the expansion, about half claimed to have no opinion one way or the other
C.the twice-daily periods of peak congestion caused by people commuting in cars have grown from about an hour each to almost two and a half hours each in the past 20 years
D.expanding the commuter rail system will require the construction of dozens of miles of new rail bed
E.the proposed expansion to the commuter rail system will make it possible for some people who both live and work at suburban locations to commute by rail
